At the end of November 2023, the first generation of professionals certified in High Technology graduated from a pioneering program offered by the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) through the Institute of Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering (Mexicali Campus), and the Center for Continuing Education. This is the first certification of its kind in México, and it is offered in the northwest area, where this industrial sector is rapidly expanding.

The certification program consisted of 10 specialized modules for the semiconductor and electronics sector, with a content organization based on microlearning and a duration of 240 hours. Some topics that made up the certification were nanomaterials and nanotechnology, digital communications, high- frequency systems, and telecommunications, among others.

At the certification ceremony, Dr. Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre, rector of UABC, thanked the company Skyworks Solutions and the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation of Baja California for their support in jointly promoting the initiative, since the semiconductor materials have gained particular relevance worldwide due to their usefulness in the manufacture of electronic devices.

For his part, Luis Solís Castillo, director of Human Resources at Skyworks Solutions, pointed out that in Baja California, there is a lot of professional talent thanks to the academic work carried out by institutions such as UABC and the actions undertaken by the state government. He added that the demand for electronic devices and cutting-edge technology does not seem to subside, and to meet this demand, professionals with the best training are required so that they can design, produce, and maintain their products and systems.
